I see you 💛

My last post resonated with many of you who have a beloved dog, for want of a better word is ‘reactive’. Below sounds simplistic which I know in reality it is not.

Hope 💛

I want to give you hope and confidence that it does get better, for the most part. There are unfortunately the dogs who are too damaged, have neurological problems and other issues to difficult to overcome.

Hope 💛

Run your Vet ragged having full bloods, mobility checks, scans, x rays if needed, gastrointestinal checks are recommended as many dogs have an unbalanced gut.

Hope 💛

Look at the food you are giving your dog. My dogs behaviour improved when I changed his food to low fat. He was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis so was a case of need.

Hope 💛

Rest days are vital to allow any built up stresses to reduce. Our mindsets are the ones that need to be changed. Imagine the constant stressed state of your dog going out to where the scary stuff is, once, twice everyday.

Hope 💛

Mental enrichment, brain games, 121 training there is so much that we can do with our dogs nowadays. From a box of empty toilet rolls with biscuits inside to a full blown Freework area outside. So many groups cater solely for canine enrichment. It is not how difficult something is, but how enjoyable your dog finds it.

Hope 💛

Secure enclosed fields are springing up in all areas. A safe place to let your dog be off lead. It helps relax you as well, letting your iniment threat radar reduce. Many fields have basic agility equipment and fun stuff to do. Remember it can be a little overwhelming for your dog at first

Hope 💛

Take someone with you for a walk. Another pair of eyes and just having someone to talk to can be a lifesaver.

Hope 💛

Invest in a force free trainer and/or behaviourist. Sometimes we can’t see the woods for the trees and a professional can be objective and set you on the right path

Hope 💛

Know canine body language, specifically your dogs. Know what that little huff means, the twitch of the ears. Watchful versus fixated.

Hope 💛

Your journey is yours to take with your dog. Many of us have been on the journey before and setting on it again. The path can be rocky and you think you’ve just got over one mountain to find another one in front of you. But it too can be climbed

Hope 💛

Just be still with your dog. Believe in yourself and love yourself like your dog looks at you.

I see you and give you hope 💛
