Lets talk Puppies 🐶 especially little cute fluffy ones 😍
On a walk today with my own dog Sabre we saw this little ball of cuteness across the field.
Socialisation can be seriously misunderstood and mis planned, potentially leading to behaviour issues further down the line.
It is a gradual exposure to the world in general, NOT meet and play with every dog or being stroked, picked up and cuddled by every person. Can you imagine having to have a cuddle from every single person you saw, complete strangers that haven’t listened to your ‘ No, thank you’ or taken note of your face or body language? 😟
A puppy learning to walk along with another dog and being ignored, is a massive positive learning experience.
Puppies are like sponges and soak up all the information they receive. Sometimes the sponge becomes saturated and they cannot take anymore info in. Biting and Zoomies anyone?
A few tips for Pups first forays into the world
🐶 Let your Pup sit and watch what’s going on around
🐶 Don’t let people stroke your Pup unless your Pup is willing
🐶 Walk with calm dogs so your pup learns to mooch and ignore
🐶 Give your Pup time to process information in the environment
🐶 Give them sniffy time
🐶 Always be prepared to say NO to insistent people
🐶 Encourage and praise good choices
Always think to yourself ‘What is my Pup learning’ with every experience. Also remember that Pups can get away with stuff when small and sweet, its not so cute when they’re fully grown dragging you across a field, to say hello to a dog because that’s what has been reinforced over and over again
Start as you mean to go on and enjoy taking time enjoying life as much as your Pup 🥰
